Aliens: Infestation is a 2D side-scrolling action-exploration game for the Nintendo DS, developed by WayForward Technologies in collaboration with Gearbox Software. Released in 2011, it is often described as a "Metroidvania" title that prioritizes atmosphere and survival over mindless shooting. 

Core Gameplay Mechanics

• Permadeath & Squad Management: You control a squad of up to four Colonial Marines at a time. If a marine dies, they are gone forever. You can find and recruit up to 20 unique marines throughout the game to replace fallen comrades.
• Exploration (Metroidvania): The game encourages backtracking and searching for keycards, weapons, and upgrades. You explore iconic locations like the USS Sulaco, the Derelict ship, and LV-426.
• Authentic Arsenal: Players use signature weapons from the films, including the pulse rifle, smart gun, flamethrower, and motion tracker. Weapons can be upgraded to increase damage.
• Tension & Stealth: The game features high-tension segments where you must use cover, blindfire, and stealth to avoid being overwhelmed by Xenomorphs.
• Mini-Games: Includes an unlockable mini-game based on Bishop’s famous "knife trick" from the Aliens film. 

Story & Setting

• Timeline: The game serves as a bridge between the films Aliens and Alien 3.
• Plot: A squad of Colonial Marines from the USS Sephora is sent to investigate the USS Sulaco after it is found adrift in space. The story shifts between fighting Xenomorph hives and dealing with the Union of Progressive Peoples (UPP) and Weyland-Yutani's biological experiments.
• Dynamic Narrative: Dialogue and certain plot reactions change depending on which marines are currently in your active squad.
